Nine Pendant Lights that add Impact

When it comes to designing your perfect space, lighting has to be an important factor, and as per my previous blog post 'Let There Be Light', there are many different types of lighting to consider - task, ambient and so on.

Some of the fun and funkiest lights I come across in my line of work, is the humble pendant light.

Often used for practical purposes such as task lighting, but I particularly love it when they are incorporated into a design scheme as a statement piece or architectural feature.

Here are my current favourite nine...

Aurora Vita Eos Feather Pendant Shade in Grey, by Graham & Green

This tactile goose feather lampshade perhaps isn't practical for every interior, but you have to admit it's a talking piece. Made-up from over 1,800 natural goose feathers and available in three colourways, it really is rather lovely. Costing anything from £9.00 to £325, it's certainly not run-of-the-mill.

Louis Poulsen Cirque Pendant Light, available from Nest

Inspired by hot-air balloons and carousels, Cirque is a new pendant light created by Louis Poulsen in collaboration with the Swedish Designer, Clara von Zweigbergk. Available in three sizes, this colourful, laid-back striped light ranges in price from £183 to £385.

Geometric Metal Pendant from Nordic House

If you are looking to add an industrial feel to your room design, you can't go far wrong with this very fetching geometric light from the Nordic House. Simple by chic, it really does look fabulous with a raw surface as its back-drop. Priced at £117.

Merle Pendant Light from Barker & Stonehouse

I love the simplicity of this Scandi style design. Its cream dome shaped pendant really would complement most interiors and it is the perfect task light for hanging over a dining table or breakfast bar. Priced at £179.

Demijohn Pendant Light in Clear Glass from Pooky

The classic lantern style pendant has been around for many years but I love this variation on a theme. The hand-blown glass with antique brass fittings exudes elegance and would look fab in a hallway, kitchen or hung high in a barn conversion. Price: £110.

Moooi Raimond LED from Rume

If you are looking to bring the stars at night - indoors. Look no further. Designed by Raimond Puts for Moooi these huge twinkling globes look stunning suspended at intervals from a high ceiling. The intricately designed spheres really feel like a quality designer piece and with a recommended retail price of £3,778, you certainly feel like you a purchasing an art form.

Bell Pendant Lamp by Normann Copenhagen, available from Skandium

Designed by Abdreas Lund and Jacob Rudbeck, this pendant is a simple but robust design fashioned with the iconic bell shape in mind. Available in four sizes and two colourways, namely Sand and Grey, their matt, modern, minimalist finish has a distinctly Nordic feel. Priced from £170.

Hex Pendant by Davey Lighting, available from The Original BTC

This striking Hexagonal shaped pendant light contains 3 lamps within its glass shade that when lit, produce an interesting silhouette. Elegant but sturdy, the Hex is available in a weathered brass finish, with clear glass. The extra-large version here is priced at £959.

PH Snowball Pendant Light by Poul Henningsen, available from Houseology

This sculptural pendant has somewhat of a retro feel about it. Glossy on the top side and matt on the underside, to reduce glare, the shade has been re-invented somewhat from the smaller, earlier PH Louvre version made for the Adventist Church in Denmark. Still very eye catching and priced at £1,515.
