Here at The Cornish House, we've scoured the high-street and some of our top end suppliers to list our favourite ten, so you don't have to do the searching.

Kicking off our countdown, we start with the Amelia Armchair from Neptune.

Priced from £630 the Amelia is a classically designed armchair with traditional brass casters, stud detailing and an extra wide seat that ensures comfort and style. Well-made and elegantly sophisticated, the Amelia Armchair comes in a variety of weighted fabric and prints that include herringbone and velvet.

Fitz in Primrose from Swoon Editions

Swoon's debut line of mid-century cocktail chairs - photographed here in beautiful Primrose, is a scallop-backed design with stitched channels and a line of covered buttons. The Fitz is a statement piece that has been carefully tailored to reference 1950s design. A very striking chair and a bit of a steal priced at £369.

Ro Easy Chair by Fritz Hansen from Heals

Taking inspiration from the iconic Fritz Hansen furniture, the curvaceous Ro Easy chair by Jaime Hayón is a contemporary lounger you can lose yourself in. The swooping lines and cutaway silhouette of the Ro are influenced by iconic Arne Jacobsen designs such as the Egg and Swan chairs, both of which are exclusively produced by Danish furniture manufacturers Fritz Hansen. Available in three colours (pink, grey and black), this designer number will set you back around £2,327.

The Fifty Three Range in Fleck Blue from G-Plan Vintage

A brand synonymous for quality, G-Plan Vintage present the Fifty Three range which has been crafted for both style and comfort. Designed with distinctive features such as turned feet finished in an American Walnut stain, it really is a very stylish offering.


Designed in collaboration with Hemingway Design, G Plan Vintage have created a stunning range of classic armchairs inspired by the 1950s and 60s and available from John Lewis in a range of 16 colours at £825.

Grantley Armchair from Arlo & Jacob

This traditionally designed armchair by Alro & Jacob is a classically crafted piece with modern, heritage-inspired lines, making it the perfect slipper chair. Available in a wide range of prints and colours, this little beauty starts at around £695.

Stuart Scott Sartor Armchair from LuxDeco

This clean, button-tufted, sharp design in a modern grey hue, brings a tailored elegance all of its own. Its solid beech frame has been beautifully upholstered in Colefax & Fowler grey wool, with contrasting piping and buttons in Manuel Canovas lamb's wool in an anthracite hue. A very stylish made-to-order piece at £2,470.

Benni Armchair from Marks & Spencer

A stylish modern tub chair with angled legs and buttoned back. Benni has a lovely neat scale making it perfect for smaller spaces. Available in a selection of colours and prints, the Benni armchair starts at an appealing £199.

Mammoth Chair Fluffy Dark Stained from Houseology

A solid oak veneer upholstered lounge chair with vintage leather upholstery and dark stained finish.


A design influenced by Mid-Century Modernism and sculpted using traditional Danish cabinetmaking techniques, the NORR11 Mammoth Chair Fluffy Dark Stained - Vintage Leather by Houseolog, is the perfect complement for a style-conscious space. Available in leather or Fluffy Wool, prices range from £1,439 to £2,429.

Kubrick Wing Back Chair from Made.com

With curved lines and angled legs, this 1960's inspired piece is a take on the classic wing back chair design, with a retro twist.


The button detail adds structure and texture to the backrest, while the high back foam cushioning embraces the 1960's shape providing a well-supported, medium-firm sit. Available in fabric in four on-trend colours, this chair is available from Made.com at £379.

The Knoll Barcelona Chair from The Conran Shop

Quite possibly the most imitated designs of all time. The Knoll Barcelona chair was designed by German born, Mies van der Rohe. Although an exemplar of the machine style, the chair is largely hand-made: the cushions are made from 148 separate pieces of leather and the chromed stainless steel frame is hand buffed to a mirror finish.


Authenticity is guaranteed by the company logo engraved on the right leg, and an original will set you back something in the region of £5,755.
